WHY I PEACHTREE
Each
newsletter we will feature one lucky participant on why they race the Peachtree. This week’s feature is from Doug Allison from Lawrenceville,
Georgia.
"When
I was around 60, I decided I needed to add some aerobic activity to my
daily workouts. So, with my daughter Emma’s coaching and encouragement, I took up running
at a nearby park. At first, I was slow with little stamina, but eventually
I was able to run three miles without walking...
I entered the lottery for the 50th Peachtree in 2019
and was both excited and nervous to be selected. Of
course, I’d been hearing about the Peachtree for years, but I was awestruck to
actually be among 59,999 of my closest friends. The pageantry at the
start, the cheering spectators lining Peachtree, the bands (to whom I
always tipped my hat in thanks), and the enthusiastic volunteers made this
unlike anything I’d ever experienced. At times, it seemed like I was moving
faster along some stretches of Peachtree than I have by car...
Emma
and I will be running the Peachtree this year on Saturday, July 3. We’ve
both been training and I can hardly wait for another chance to run a race
with my dear daughter."
