Hello ,

My name is Bill Burke, Race Director for Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon.

Welcome to the 43rd Annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon! We are so happy that you can join us for this iconic event from the city by the Bay.

Preparation for this particular race is critical! To help you from now until you cross the finish line, you will receive weekly newsletters packed with vital information about the bucket list course and what to expect on this classic race weekend.

I very strongly encourage you to read each one carefully, as the details will help to ensure your race is as safe and successful as possible. With valuable training and course tips specific only to this event, even salty triathlon veterans can learn from these newsletters.

The Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon team and I wish you the best in your training and look forward to seeing you all on race weekend.

Please watch the race tips videos on the website. If you have any questions, feel free to email the team at info@escapealcatraztri.com

All the best,

Bill Burke

While training for the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon, here are a few tips to help get you across the finish line:

  • Remember, this is a challenging, open-water swim with a strong current. Try to swim in open-water as often as possible. If open-water is not accessible where you live, getting laps in at a pool or joining your local Masters swim program will help. Water World Swim offers a number of opportunities to jump into the San Francisco Bay before the event. For more information about these opportunities visit: www.waterworldswim.com
  • Brick workouts are essential for this race. After a long bike ride, try to do some running. You’ll see that stacking your training is effective and will payoff on race day.
  • During your training runs, be sure to include some stairs. There are a good number of steps from mile two through six, including the infamous Sand Ladder.

For more helpful race tips, be sure to keep an eye on our upcoming newsletters and visit our website: www.EscapeAlcatrazTri.com.
