Surftown Half Marathon, Relay and 5K
 
RACE BIB & SWAG PICKUP:
Thursday, September 7: 4:00 to 6:00 PM – Goodwin University, Riverside Drive, East Hartford, CT (Near the intersection of Riverside Drive & Ensign Street)
Saturday, September 9: 3:00 – 5:00 PM, Grey Sail Brewing, 63 Canal Street, Westerly, RI
Race Day: 6:00 – 7:00 AM, Misquamicut State Beach, 257 Atlantic Avenue, Westerly, RI

Speed up your bib pick-up experience! Log into your haku participant account and download or print your own unique Check-in Pass before you get in line. The pass can be downloaded and saved in your phone images or Apple Wallet, or printed out. 

Then visit the Registration & Bib Pick-up Tent to get your race bib. Your short sleeve technical race shirt will be available for pick up at the SWAG tent before the event.
PARKING / DIRECTIONS:
Pre/post race activities and the start/finish areas will be in and around Wuskenau Town Beach and at the east end of the Misquamicut State Beach, 257 Atlantic Avenue, Westerly, RI.

Arrive early! Atlantic Avenue will close to traffic at 7:10 AM.

HMF provides FREE parking to all athletes at Misquamicut State Beach. Please follow directions of volunteers and signs to access the free parking area. Other parking lots are available that will charge a fee. 5K participants cannot exit Misquamicut State Beach parking area before 9:00 AM. Please carpool if possible. DETAILS

RACE STARTS:
The Half Marathon and Relay will start at the east end of Misquamicut State Beach, on Atlantic Avenue. The race start will consist of one corral with “Self Seed” pace per mile signs to assist with participant spacing. Timing mats located at the start will capture your net time.

The Half Marathon offers pace leaders to help athletes achieve their goal time. There is no fee and anyone can use the ProHealth Physicians Pace Teams service. DETAILS

Course limit is 3 hours for the half marathon. To finish within these time limits participants must maintain a pace of approximately 13:44 minutes per mile. 
HALF MARATHON COURSE MAP


5K
 
will start and finish under the Finish Truss on Atlantic Avenue, just east of Misquamicut State Beach. The start horn will go off at 7:40 AM (10 minutes after the Half Marathon). 5K COURSE MAP


RACE COURSE & SUPPORT:

Police and course monitors will be on the course. However, the roads are open to local vehicle travel.
MARKINGS
  • Turns will be marked with yellow signs with blue arrows. 
  • All mile points are marked on the road and with signs. 
  • Clocks & timing mats at finish line and along the course.

AMENITIES

  • Water and Nuun Endurance stations are located Pre/Post Race and every 1 to 2 miles along the Half Marathon course. 
  • Water and Nuun stations are located Pre/Post Race and one location on the 5K course.
  • GU Energy Gel located at mile 6.2 on Half Marathon course.
  • Medical stations are located at the start/finish line and on course.
  • Entertainment on Half Marathon course.
  • Portalets: Pre/Post Race & along the course.

Please do not litter on the beautiful course!

ATHLETE TRACKING:
Half Marathon participants can get real-time athlete updates. Athletes or spectators can follow along and receive real-time updates with course time and pace from the start, 8 miles split and at the finish line. Sign up for tracking HERE

Note: Athlete database will be updated on September 5 and 8.

 
POST RACE:
8:00 AM – 10:30 AM: Celebrate your amazing accomplishments together with music, delicious local chowder, and Grab & Go snacks featuring Bakery on Main and LesserEvil popcorn. Registered participants can also enjoy a complimentary ice-cold beer from Grey Sail Brewing. Must be 21+ years of age with proper ID to receive the complimentary beer.

EVENT MERCHANDISE:
Shop in-person for custom quarter zips, sweatshirts and tees and pick up pre-orders at the HMF Merchandise tent at packet pickup on Thursday and Saturday and on race day. Payment by major cards or Apple Pay only.

CRABBY CHALLENGE MEDALS:

If you qualified for the Crabby Challenge by running any distance at the Mystic Half Marathon & 10K, L+M Hospital 10K & 5K and Surftown Half Marathon & 5K, your medal will be available for pickup at the HMF Merchandise tent on race day. Medals can be picked up by a friend or family member.

TIMING / RESULTS / AWARDS:
This event is timed by Bay State Race Services and uses the B-Tag timing system (timing chip is attached to the back of the race bib). Please wear the race bib on the front of the shirt. All times are based on NET time (timing mats located at the start and finish).

Preliminary results will be available onsite. Final results will be posted later in the day. RESULTS

GIVE BACK (with GIVEAWAY RAFFLE):

Donate nonperishable food in the HMF Can tent to be entered into the raffle for a free 5K at the Eversource Hartford Marathon (or 5K equivalent value for another distance on Oct. 14). Plus, preview the 30th running finisher medals!
The food donation drive is supported by Stop & Shop and your donation will help the Jonnycake Center of Westerly which provides food, clothing, educational and financial assistance to those in need in the Westerly-Chariho area. 
 
EMERGENCY TEXTING:
HMF emergency texting is used ONLY in situations such as event delays, cancellations or last-minute event changes to relay pertinent details. We never use this for marketing or solicitation.
